How to Sync Your iMD Data Across Multiple Devices (Backup & Restore Guide)

Studying across a phone, tablet, and laptop is convenient‐until your progress gets scattered. If you use the iMD app for question banks (like UWorld Step 1), you can sync important study data‐such as highlighted MCQs, unsolved questions, and your progress‐by using iMD's built-in Backup and Restore feature.

What You'll Need Before You Start

  • Your IMD Login Credentials
  • The same question bank database downloaded on both devices (example: UWorld Step 1 QBank September 2025)
  • Stable Internet access

Step 1: Generate a Backup Code on Your Main Device

Use the device that already has your progress (your "main device").

  1. Open the iMD app
  2. Go to your Question Banks / Databases
  3. Open the same QBank you want to sync.
    Example: UWorld Step 1 QBank September 2025
  4. Scroll down inside that QBank
  5. Tap Backup
  6. Tap Generate Backup Code
  7. iMD will show a backup code.
  8. Copy and save the backup code

Tip: Paste it into a notes app temporarily or send it to yourself securely.

✅ At this point, your progress for that specific QBank is now packaged into a backup code.

Step 2: Restore Your Data on Your Other Device

Now switch to your second device (phone/tablet/another platform).

  1. Install the iMD app and log in with the same account
  2. Download the same database / QBank
    Example: Download UWorld Step 1 QBank September 2025 again
  3. Open that QBank
  4. Scroll down
  5. Tap Restore
  6. Paste the backup code you copied from the main device
  7. Confirm to restore

✅ Your highlights, progress, and related QBank data should now appear on the second device.

Important Tips (Avoid Common Sync Mistakes)

  • Restore only works if the database matches. If you generate a code from UWorld Step 1, you must restore into UWorld Step 1 (not Step 2/3).
  • Also make sure the MONTH AND THE YEAR of the QBank Match in both devices
  • Keep the backup code private. It represents your personal study data.
  • If you use multiple QBanks, repeat the same process one QBank at a time.
