Pick your device below. On iPhone, iPad and Mac there is usually nothing to do — on Android and Windows you install the latest file over the app you already have, and your account and downloaded databases stay put.
Already up to date.
IMD on iPhone and iPad is the web app at imdweb.org, which loads from our servers every time you open it. There is no version on your phone to replace, so there is no update to install and nothing in the App Store to check.
You always have the current version. If the icon on your home screen ever seems stuck on something old, close it and open it again — that is the only step there is.

Download the latest IMD APK.
The same file as a fresh install — about 75 MB. Use Wi-Fi if you can.
Open the downloaded file and tap Update.
Android recognises it as a newer version of the app you already have, so the button says Update rather than Install. Do not uninstall the old app first — that is what would remove your downloaded databases.
If Chrome or Play Protect warns you, continue anyway.
Tap Download anyway, and Install anyway if Play Protect appears. Both warn about any file that did not come from the Play Store, including every IMD update.
Open IMD.
You stay signed in — an update does not log you out, and your downloaded databases are still there.
Back up before you update
Installing the new APK over the old one keeps your account and your downloaded databases — but your question-bank progress, highlights and notes are worth protecting before any update. Take a backup code first and nothing can be lost. How to back up and restore.
LabRange updates on its own.
The desktop app checks for new versions and applies them by itself. There is nothing to download, no installer to run again, and your activation code does not need re-entering.
Your databases and your progress stay where they are through an update.

The same as on iPhone: the web app loads from our servers each time you open it, so the copy in your Dock is always the current one. There is no version sitting on your Mac to replace.
If it looks out of date, quit it from the Dock and open it again.

Download the latest IMD APK onto your PC.
About 75 MB.
Open your Android emulator — BlueStacks, LDPlayer, MEmu or whichever you installed IMD in.
It has to be the same emulator. Each one keeps its own apps and data, so installing the update in a different emulator gives you a second, empty IMD.
Install the APK into the running emulator.
Right-click the downloaded file and choose Open with, then your emulator — or drag the APK onto the emulator window, which most of them accept. BlueStacks also has an Install APK button in its side toolbar.
Let it install over the existing app.
The emulator treats it as an update and keeps your account and your downloaded databases. Do not uninstall IMD inside the emulator first.
Open IMD in the emulator.
You stay signed in. If it asks you to log in again, use the username and password we sent you on WhatsApp.
